GREENSBORO, N.C. — October 23, 2026 — The North Carolina Tennis Foundation has announced that the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremony will be named the John Allen Farfour, Sr. North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremony. This year’s event will be held on January 30, 2027, at The Ballantyne Hotel in Charlotte.
The recently named event honors John Allen Farfour, Sr. through one of North Carolina tennis’ most prestigious traditions: the NC Tennis Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremony. The event recognizes individuals whose outstanding contributions to tennis have brought distinction to both them and the state.Naming the event for John Allen Farfour, Sr. is a fitting tribute to an ambassador for the sport who devoted nearly seven decades to tennis as a player, teacher, administrator, and leader at the local, area, and statewide levels. Known throughout North Carolina as “Mr. Tennis,” Farfour had a heart for young people and founded the Eastern Carolina Junior Tennis Open, which he promoted for 50 years.
In service and leadership roles, Farfour helped establish both the North Carolina Tennis Association (NCTA) and the North Carolina Tennis Foundation (NCTF) serving as
· Vice President of the NCTA 1961-1965, and President in 1965
· Vice President of the NCTF from 1965-1970, and President from 1971-1973
· Member of the Hall of Fame selection committee from 1975-1977, including its inaugural year
· Inducted into the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame in 1979
